"In Native ways of knowing, human people are often referred to as “the younger brothers of Creation.” We say that humans have the least experience with how to live and thus the most to learn—we must look to our teachers among the other species for guidance. Their wisdom is apparent in the way that they live. They teach us by example. They’ve been on the earth far longer than we have been, and have had time to figure things out.” - Robin Wall Kimmerer
The linden tree is unique in that each part, though very distinct from each other, can be used for healing. It is considered sacred, symbolizing love, friendship, peace, justice and altruism. Lindens can live up to 1,000 years.
"The best leaders are those who are willing to step into the unknown and ask questions, listen, and learn along the way." - Dr. Brené Brown
"We can’t heal what we don’t acknowledge."
— Dr. Thema Bryant-Davis
A leader is willing to reckon with their own lack & privilege to help raise up those around us. We can't lead others where we haven't gone.
"Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again." — Nelson Mandela
A leader is not one sitting on a pedestal but one who is scarred by daring greatly and failing boldly, over and over again.
“A genuine leader is not a seeker of consensus but a molder of consensus.” - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Linden Collective is a network of leaders committed to the power of stories to bring healing to the polarization in ourselves and our communities. How does bias that been embedded into our perspectives, habits, bodies, and relationships impact us? It happens when we hold sacred space for one another's stories to transform us. From our oldest traditions, storytelling has always been the way wisdom was passed, how minds were changed, values shaped. Healing from the ground up starts with real conversations—wading into the reality of our own privilege & fragility, holding space for one another's stories until they matter enough to us, and having the courage to tell our own.
"To get to the next level of greatness depends on the quality of the culture, which depends on the quality of relationships, which depends on the quality of conversations. Everything happens through conversations.” – Judith E. Glaser
Take up the 3 Convo Challenge! Meet someone that you would normally not include in your reference group. Sit with each other over a meal or a cup of tea for three conversations that will connect, inspire, and teach you.
Excerpt from a poem by a Linden Leader (2024)
In your story, I find my own—
not in the sameness, but in the pulse,
the quiet rhythm of being human.
For what we speak here does not end;
it lingers, alive, in the spaces between.
Broadening your relational diversity can greatly enhance mental and physical well-being, emotional health, and cognitive flexibility. Social connections provide emotional support, reduce stress, and boost self-esteem while exposing you to new perspectives and cultural experiences. As diversity expands your understanding and empathy, it also strengthens problem-solving and creativity.
Dr. Vivek Murthy, U.S. Surgeon General, emphasizes this: “We are living in a time of profound disconnection, and it has consequences for our mental and physical health. Strengthening social bonds can foster resilience, reduce stress, and improve life satisfaction.”
